20 things about me!!

Hello!!!

Today I thought I would share a few things about me, including where my new name 'Down the Rabbit Hole' came from! For those that have been following me on Instagram for a while, you may have already seen a post I did with '20 things about me' last year, but I am going to change it up a bit & share again :)

My inspiration for my new name came from 2 places, I recently had a Alice in Wonderland themed tattoo done, & whilst looking at it the name just came to me, literally, it was a light bulb moment! & then I thought when I made my 1st quilt & became hooked on quilting, I really did fall down the rabbit hole, the sewing/quilting rabbit hole LOL!!

So a few things about me!!

This is ME!! & my hubby. This is my most favourite photo of us, taken in 1999. Back when we were spring chickens ;)

1. I am 35 (19 when this photo was taken) 
2. We have no children as yet due to unexplained fertility issues, I think I am now at the stage where I have accepted that our lives will be what they will be, I'm quite content now with the fact that we may never have children, a feeling I never thought I would have, I've always wanted to be a mum, from a very young age, so to feel this way is a huge thing for me!
3. I started bubbamia (my old name) while we were doing IVF in 2009 to keep myself occupied
4. Sometimes I just like to sit in my sewing room, not sew, not make plans, just sit, I love my sewing room! You will find me in here nearly all of the time that I am at home, in my flannel Elmo pj bottoms & my favourite hoodie LOL ( & yes I am in here now as I write this, in said clothing)
5. My ideal weekend is staying home & not having to go ANYWHERE!! Why does that never happen though????
6. I have 2 fur babies, Huskies, Brocky & Jax, they think they are actually human, I swear!
7. I never thought I would be able to sew clothing, but with a little push from my lovely friend Kerryn @millie_mae I found that I could!
8. I love looking at all the pretty handmade things people make!
9. I wish I had more time to make ^^ said pretty things for myself!
10. I have 3 tattoos, Alice in Wonderland, Minnie Mouse & a flower.
11. I find myself socially awkward in the real world, I get nervous, say things that make no sense, but I love my online friendships I have made ❤️
12. I love reading a good book & not being able to put it down
13. I am a self confessed TV junkie, LIKE REALLY!
14. I can not sew without watching something at the same time, just can.not.do.it
15. I love fabric, LOVE LOVE LOVE!
16. I would love to own my own brick & mortar fabric shop one day, I have always had grand plans of big work stations where people can come in with their sewing machines & just sit, chat & sew all day ❤️
17. I've started to only buy fabric when I have plans for it! My sewing 'to make' wish list is now never ending HAHAHA!!
18. I am the slowest sewer ever, I know you think you are, but I am telling you now, I am, I win! :p
19. I have 3 favourite fabric designers whose fabric you will find the most of on my shelves, Bonnie & Camille, Tasha Noel & Pam Kitty
20. I can not put on makeup, I have never ever been able to do it so I don't wear it, mascara is about as good as it gets;)

I know as soon as I publish this post I will think of 10 more things that are probably way more interesting to share than what I just shared, but that's ok, I will make a note of them & share them with you later!!

Blogging... Fifth time successful?

So this would be the 5th time I have decided to start a blog! I guess I never really knew what I wanted to write about before, but now I do!!
I am going to share my sewing journey with you, I hope I don't bore you too much, I promise I will do my best to make my post's interesting enough that you don't fall asleep ;) So I am starting with how I got to here, today, totally addicted to Bonnie & Camille fabrics, Instagram, & neglecting my husband nightly to spend time with Jessie, my Janome, in my sewing room!!

I started sewing in 2010, I used PDF patterns to teach myself how to sew children's clothing, I loved it so much I started selling the items I was making. But around the start of last year I found myself not enjoying sewing as much as I used to, I hated even the thought of setting foot inside my sewing room ( & I LOVE my sewing room), orders started to feel like a chore & I knew that something had to change!

Annnnnnnd then I found Instagram!!! Oh my gosh... the hours I have spent scrolling through Instagram in the last 12 months!! All of these gorgeous ladies sharing their items they had made, quilts, mini quilts, quilt blocks, sewing accessories, HEXIES & the list just goes on & on! (not to mention my new found obsession with Bonnie & Camille fabrics, but I'll save that chat for another day!)

So I decided to make myself a quilt, I had seen a picture on Instagram, @stitchingrevival had posted a photo of Cluck Cluck Sew's Shortcake Quilt Pattern paired with Bonnie & Camille's Hello Darling fabric & I knew instantly that THAT was what I wanted to make for myself! It did take me a few months start to finish, but I completed my quilt top, it still needs to be quilted & I think I am nearly ready to attempt that myself.

I have made a few things over the last 12 months & I have enjoyed it so much, I am learning all the time, I am meeting so many lovely, talented, inspiring, helpful ladies on Instagram everyday!! My to make list is frightfully long... really, it is, I kid you not, I add to it daily!! I promise to show you once I have typed it up & it looks prettier LOL!

And there it is, my 1st blog post, are you still awake?? I hope so!! xx
